Photo Contest

I did it. I bucked up and entered a contest with Reed Photo-Imaging! The theme was fall which was perfect considering I just finished my Estes pictures the other day. I entered this picture.

Rocky Mountain High

I took a little road trip to Estes Park a week ago. It was the day before Elk Fest started. If you don't know what Elk Fest is, you MUST check it out: here. The elk are rutting this time of year, here's a good video from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation:




When my dad posted this on Facebook it made me want to go back to Estes and see some elk. Crazy though, even around the time they hold Elk Fest I didn't see ANY elk! We did see some big horn sheep though while we were coming down the canyon.

I've come a long way

In life that is. I've been down a lot of roads, literally as well as emotionally, physically, and spiritually. The also drive... a lot! I commute to both of my jobs which are 40 and 60 miles away so I am constantly on the road. The one thing that has always amazed me is that a road changes daily with every vehicle that drive on it. I feel like that is how I am. I change everyday.

I also love to take pictures of myself. I have hundreds, if not thousands but never do anything with them. I took this one and I purposely cut myself off a little. I love the way it turned out. If you look close the glasses are black and white. Not color. I think people tend to forget that most of us see the world in color and we have to treat everyone as if the world was black and white. There is right and wrong, black and white. There is no gray zone. There is no room to treat people differently than one another.

 

The road doesn't have to be long and narrow and it's important to remember that you can never drive down the same road twice.

The first picture I'm really proud of

And there are tons about it I would change but I really love this picture of our horse Lurch. I had to edit a ton of hay off of his face and I wish I hadn't of chopped off his ear and back of his head but I really like what I have. He's a good ol' boy. I think I'll keep him and the picture :)

Before the season changes

Before the seasons change on us again here in Colorado I chose to snap a few pictures of the flowers outside my back door. My husband has a green thumb, he loves flowers. His first job was in a green house taking care of the flowers and our yard is always beautiful, solely thanks to him. I also love my new actions and these were a nice experiment on how to use some of them.

 

 

Fall at Magness

Fall at Magness means lots of harvesting! Our whole household bursts at the seam with excitement when the tractors start to roll out and get cleaned up. For a solid six weeks this is what I see when I look outside:

Baby I'm Coming Home...

My sister is a senior in high school this year and is usually up for anything I want to use her for a guinea pig for. Her homecoming fell just a few days after I got my camera but I had a dentist appointment and couldn't be there when she got ready. So she came up on a Friday afternoon and we had a small "trash the dress" session in her homecoming dress so she could have some memorable photos of her dress before the big shindig. These were my first photos out of this camera so be gentle in the scrutiny! :)
